It's the 31st. January can jog on.

24 minute warm ups we're a good idea, but maaaaaan it got boring fast. I have learnt this: 1, no one needs to warm up for 24 minutes and 2, I made a very valuable exercise become a chore with how I approached it. Next month will be different. However, I've had fun for the last few days with some hybrid picking that has slotted perfectly into my …

Day 28 2: The Day After Day 28

I think I'm on to something with this lick. It's evolving. I'm working on something that started from a damn drum rudiment. I've practiced for two hours today and it's not over yet.

    28 Days Later

Once upon a time, I played drums a lot. I'm looking at guitar from a drummer's perspective more than I realise.

Once upon a time, I played drums a lot. I'm looking at guitar from a drummer's perspective more than I realise. The rudiment every drummer knows is a paradiddle - R L R R L R L L. I took this rudiment and translated it onto the guitar and here's what I've been playing around with. Time to drill it whilst watching a movie...

    2 + 4 = 24

    Today was a difficult day.

Discovering your internal metronome can be a hard process and as one may think playing gets harder at faster tempos, I find it's the exact opposite. My metronome was set to 20 bpm today. Give it a go, it's quite the challenge.

    Day Twenteen

I just practiced for an hour...

Continuing on with yesterday's theme; exploiting one technique over a variety of chords. I just practiced for an hour, non stop and it felt like 5 minutes. Yes, I did the stupid 24 minute warm up; who on earth thought that was a good idea?...

    Today was Fun!

I'm sick of this warmup routine. I can't wait to change it up next month. Today was fun, thanks to @sebcrookes for jamming with me. We discussed ways to elongate improvisation ideas by taking a technique and using it across all seven modes of the major scale.

    Small Goals - Big Rewards

Generally, my life revolves around the number 16. I hear music in 16th notes (or semi-quavers to all of you traditional folk) and so whenever I can hear music, I'm trying my hardest to figure out how to play it. Today was about having fun. I cannot stress how beneficial it is to practice every day; small goals - big rewards. See you tomorrow.

    Isn't that weird?

I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings...

Day 15.So I've started each session with a 24 minute warm-up which is doubling as a coordination exercise. I started with 16th notes at 85 BPM, expecting it to increase the further this project goes. What I didn't expect is that I've been slowing down the metronome, arriving at 70bpm today. Isn't that weird?I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

I once watched a video where @paulgilbert_official and @nathaneast had a jam over one chord and it changed my life. That video still inspires me to this day. Less is more.
